StoneFix Director Andy Gough successfully completes a “Three National Peaks” challenge to raise money for a local special care baby unit.
StoneFix Director Andy Gough along with Rob Shuker, Christian Meyer, Mark Williams, Alex Tate, Allan Reid, Sean Madden and Paul Senior successfully completed the climbing of the three highest mountains in the UK within 24 hours.
A friend of Andy’s recently became a father for the first time and celebrated the birth of twin boys, Samuel and Joshua.
Samuel was born with Necrotizing Enterocolitis, a serious intestinal illness in babies. This resulted in an operation to remove a small section of his bowel. He spent the first period of this life being looked after by the team of doctors and nurses in the Special Care Baby Unit at Harrogate District Hospital. The care and support that Samuel received while in the Special Care Baby Unit was absolutely invaluable in giving him the best possible start in life.
It is for this reason that Rob organised the "3 Peaks Challenge" starting over the English bank holiday weekend at the beginning of May to raise money for the unit.
Andy and the other team members were determined to assist Rob in his fund raising quest for such a good cause. None of the team members had attempted this or similar events previously! The team trained by walking various routes over the Yorkshire peaks every Sunday for six weeks prior to the climb.
Training was hard and certainly a wakeup call to many, but nothing compared to the physical and psychological demands the three peaks had to offer!! All successfully completed the challenge and all finished with aching limbs, blisters etc.
Andy Gough described the challenge as “one of the most physical and psychological demands he has ever faced, whilst at the same time enjoyable”. He would also like to take the opportunity to thank customers, suppliers, friends, family and work colleagues for their generosity as they all played their part in the team smashing its fundraising target of £5,000 and achieving just short of £9,000..
Andy is also delighted to inform all the sponsors that Samuel has made a full recovery and hopefully with the money raised many other babies will also get the same opportunities.
